ABSTRACT

This chapter identifies actions that produce remorse, to help to recognize the early warning signs. In contrast, when asked to share the last time they followed their intuition with a negative outcome, very few stories emerge – and when they do, the instances of regret or remorse are rare. People rarely express remorse over actions they undertook with positive intent, even if those actions failed. People are following this same losing strategy when they avoid short-term discomfort when an act of intelligent disobedience is clearly necessary. If a manager doesn't agree, we recommend that propose actions can take to validate intuition and, once it is validated, engage in an intelligently disobedient act. Even when people understand the risk and significance of feeling remorse, hesitation comes from a certainty that some degree of discomfort will result.
