ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the three Domains that make up the work of an organisation: the Social, Technical and Commercial. All organisations are social in that they involve people coming together to work to achieve a purpose. People working in organisations have very strong views about their organisations and how they are run, especially the quality of the leadership. Systems Leadership Theory is based on the proper use of authority in organisations. It is one of the most important concepts in creating positive organisations. Organisations based on power require a lot of energy to protect one's turf, to gain more turf, to manipulate others to act and avoid accountability. This drains energy from the productive work of the organisation and causes burnout in some employees. Organisations that run on power often function like a Royal Court. At Court the only thing that matters is what the King or Queen wants.
