ABSTRACT
The designers and performers with their fingers on the pulse of the current burlesque scene speak for themselves. This chapter focuses on the case studies of several modern burlesque costume designers as are up-close examples of modern costumes. Notable burlesque performers are bringing deep skill sets from sister arts like circus, global dance, and aerial. There is a vast discrepancy in construction and assemblage of modern burlesque costume pieces, which is dependent on both the financial status and the style of the performer. Many burlesquers supplement income with Patreon accounts and day jobs, but even the top performers have supplemental income sources with commercial contracts or fashion lines. Cheeky Lane’s rose act is a stunning example of a neo-burlesque act employing both glamour and imagination. Technology has taken the fashion world, the entertainment world, and the burlesque world by storm, and there is no shortage of cutting-edge technique in the costumes on the burlesque stage.
