ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews several authoritative sources are that identify the key issues and trends currently affecting destination management, marketing and destination management organizations (DMO). It describes the expected future trends and potential challenges for destinations and DMOs and provides some ideas on the future characteristics of DMOs. The chapter suggests that some of the characteristics of future DMOs. It explains the current and future issues affecting destination management and marketing. The US online travel market research company PhoCusWright, Inc., published a research study titled Destination Marketing: Understanding the Role and Impact of Destination Marketers in 2009. Destination marketing and management is an emerging professional field in tourism. During 2017, the company did a survey of 71 international tourism offices of DMOs located in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and the Netherlands. The chapter also presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book.
