ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how partnerships contribute to the accomplishment of the other roles of destination management. It describes the relationship between destination governance and destination partnerships. The chapter explains the benefits of destination partnerships. It also discusses the potential partners for destination management organizations (DMO). The chapter focuses on how a DMO identifies potential partners. It identifies the types of partnerships into which DMOs can enter. The chapter also explains the concept of public–private partnerships and their advantages. Team building is aspect of the destination management role and includes proactive efforts by DMOs to build, support and maintain teams of people and organizations to implement specific strategies, programmes or actions. Some partnerships are the result of team building by the DMO, and this is a demonstration of the leadership and coordination role in destination management.
