ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the authority, destination, visitor, industry, community, environment model for visitor management. It describes the reasons for and benefits from visitor management. The chapter reviews resource protection and conservation from the visitor management perspective. It focuses on the importance and steps required to assure visitor safety and security within destinations. The chapter examines the provision of visitor interpretation, education and information. It explores the application of yield management to destinations. Visitors have contact with various government agencies beginning from the trip planning stage until they exit destinations. Visitors are part of the focus for tourism destination planning and research, marketing planning, destination branding, integrated marketing communications, product development, information provision, and so on. Destination management organizations are concerned about creating satisfied visitors as well as assuring that they are safe and secure with their destinations and receive good service and memorable experiences.
