ABSTRACT

The post-shingeki movement of the 1960s revolutionized Japanese modem drama, and subsequent developments in the theatre arts were profoundly influenced by the precedents set during this period. An account of how the legacy of the 1960s played itself out in the 1970s and 1980s is beyond the scope of this volume, but it is possible to give a few examples of the way the return of the gods affected Japanese drama.
