ABSTRACT

Consequently, a range of different wetland classification systems have been developed. Whereas some are based broadly on a combination of ecohydrological characteristics often within specific geographical locations (e.g. that of the IUCN in East Africa, 1996), others deal specifically with one aspect of ecohydrology (e.g. Gilvear and Mclnnes, 1994; Brinson et ah, 1994) depending upon the purposes of classification.
