ABSTRACT

The chapter looks at three theories which addresses the relationship between news, politics and conflict and considers those theories in relation to the research material used in this study. The research findings of this study have implications for thinking about the impact of news on politics and reference to established theories such as those used in the chapter will help to make pronounced those implications and highlight the significance of this study as a contribution to media theory. Each of the theories is concerned with how politics and news interact and the role of news in relation to conflict, the political process and peace. The chapter addresses the theories of Stuart Hall, Daniel Hallin and Gadi Wolfsfeld in order to help identify the theoretical significance of this study and to place it within an analytical context where its contribution to media analysis may be realised.
