ABSTRACT

This chapter takes a look at why not waiting for the whistleblower works, and, more importantly, how fraud and corruption, if found early, can be resolved with the minimum of fuss and bother. It summarizes some of the greatest obstacles to recognizing and dealing with red flags early and effectively. Facts that have been found needs to be presented clearly, concisely, and in as positive a light as possible, focusing on all the opportunities that discovering fraud early presents in terms of money saved, larger problems avoided and also valuable relationships that can be restored to normality or even improved. So rather than divide an organization, which is common when fraud and corruption is discovered, fraud and corruption should be used to bind the different functions in the organization even more tightly together. A variety of approaches exist to choose from, including investigation.
