ABSTRACT
This paper adopts an unusual approach in the study of regional convergence. In the past the evolution of regional disparities has been mostly analyzed in a strictly national context. In recent years, which have seen a revival of regional disparities studies, great attention has been given to the international scale and particularly, the European scale (Barro and Sala-i-Martin, 1991; Papers in Regional Science, 1995; Armstrong and Vickerman, 1995). In contrast to both these approaches, we shall compare the regional convergence experience of two countries, Italy and Spain, during their post World War II development.
