ABSTRACT

In Chapter 5 I talked about how an organization achieves sustainability by the work it does to make progress towards achieving its ideal, its Vision. This is a very different idea of sustainability than building a fixed and unchanging “structure that lasts.” Instead, we understand the organization as a dynamic entity; a developing, evolving organism. As I noted in Chapter 6, the Foundational Documents establish the organization’s identity and articulate the Vision; the ideal towards which the organization is striving.
