ABSTRACT

Improving business processes seems a very logical thing to do. This chapter describes the importance of applying a structured approach to implementing process improvement. Often business process management (BPM) activities are a journey of discovery, and solely following a predefined project scope may limit the success of the project. Management is now forced to react in the only way they can to salvage the situation— they purchase formal training in the use of the software for their staff. The BPM team spent many months selecting a BPM System and laying what it perceived to be the perfect foundations. Unfortunately, training takes time and is rarely immediately effective. The framework must provide a structured approach throughout all types of BPM activities, from project conception and initiation to completion and sustainable business as usual. There must be a thorough understanding of the typical commonly encountered BPM methodology pitfalls.
