ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the key aspects of one of the essentials: project management. It focuses on the key project management aspects that are unique to BPM activities and looks at the role and profile of the project manager. The chapter describes key gates that the BPM activity needs to pass through to be successful, and covering key stakeholder management methods. A project gate represents a critical checkpoint, milestone or risk in the journey of the project. When this milestone is reached, the gate is always assumed to be closed until the project manager and project sponsor are satisfied that there is sufficient information available to "open" the gate and continue the project. Many organizations start a finance transformation in isolation from the business, as they see that it is mainly focused on finance function. Stakeholder management needs to focus on the key individuals. The key project management risks were described, including mitigation strategies that can be undertaken.
