ABSTRACT
In a scheme which attempts to cater for library materials, there must be provision for documents which do not fall into a particular subject area but which are all-pervasive. Examples are encyclopaedias and dictionaries such as The Columbia Encyclopedia or the Oxford English Dictionary. What is required, therefore, is a ‘general works’ or ‘generalia’ class, which will enable such documents to be classified.
