ABSTRACT

In spite of these landmarks, however, there is a concern shared with our colleagues in the social history of music, that much of the work that has been done has been marginalised. If we take the most representative academic journal in the field in the United Kingdom, History of Education, we find that only four articles dealing with music education have been published in 28 years (Lawrence, 1985; Allsobrook, 1990; Cox, 1996; Cox, 1999).
