ABSTRACT

Feedback is critical to project teams because it provides them with the input they need to moderate their behaviours and processes. But when giving feedback up the project food chain, it is not advised to approach this impromptu. One official project language permits the setting of goals, and interpreting and managing what is going on. Different conceptual categories among Project Managers and Change Managers is well documented in research. Mechanisms for clarifying group boundaries include physical means such as organizational structure, job titles and job descriptions, uniforms, language, communication rules, and rules on who is part of the team and who is not. Developing a common language is another important mechanism for establishing group identity. Social processes for conferring power, authority and status are discriminatory; they expose the project organization to discrimination claims and create bad feeling on teams.
