Constantin von Neurath (1873-1956) was an aristocratic diplomat, whose posts included ambassador in Londin, 1930-32. He was foreign minister under von Papen (1932-33) and under Hitler (1933-37). Ulrich von Hassell (1881— 1944), another aristocratic diplomat, was ambassador in Rome (1932-38). He took part in the July 1944 bomb plot against Hitler and was hanged after its failure. Alexandre Millerand (1859-1943) succeeded Georges Clemenceau as prime minister (January-October 1920) and was then president (1920-24).
