ABSTRACT
This was given as the 1981 Annual Lecture at the German Historical Institute, London, and was published as a 20-page pamphlet by the Institute. It is doubtful if Stanley Morison (1889-1967) departed from the editorship of the Times Literary Supplement over the ill-feeling engendered by Alan Taylor's review of the first volume of the interwar British foreign policy documents.
