ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the linkages between sustainability innovation and entrepreneurship. It investigates the ways in which hospitality has become a major activity in society and an increasingly important sector in terms of economic and social development. The concept of social entrepreneurship has been widely reported in the mass media and is seen as an emerging discipline within many business schools. The Sustainable Luxury for Overall Wellbeing model focuses on sustainability strategies and practices in luxury goods/services companies based on a value-creation model that takes into consideration both shareholder value and social value. The inclusion of sustainable development in the hotel industry calls for making a number of decisions, not only to improve typical business performance, but also to build a good relationship with the social, economic, and environmental context in which it operates. Social entrepreneurship provides a unique opportunity to challenge, question and rethink concepts and assumptions from different fields of management and business research.
