ABSTRACT

The Authentic Leadership (AL) Development programme is based on a past–present–future group coaching approach that helps leaders clarify what is of true value to them, personally and professionally. There is growing criticism of the developing orthodoxy of AL research being based upon an empirical and realist epistemology that almost certainly limits the scope for the development of the AL concept. A theory or model of great leadership has forever eluded researchers, but when we see great leadership, it is apparent it comes down to deep-rooted authenticity. To establish if the pre- and post-coaching AL scores were significantly different, a repeated measures t-test was performed. In simple terms, t-tests are used to establish the reliable difference between two sets of scores; in this instance, the difference between the leaders’ average scores before and after they participated in the AL group coaching.
