ABSTRACT
In the introduction, a number of questions were posed about the nature of the British government industrial policy, EU inward FDI policy and Japanese FDI policy toward the EU. The case studies, which have used were chosen to respond to the theoretical concerns of some British and Japanese businessmen, car manufacturing employers and employees in the UK and government bureaucrats and politicians. Compared to former governments, the Thatcher government tried to innovate in making policy.
