ABSTRACT

Fernando Jose Cardim de Carvalho was Emeritus Professor in Economics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a Senior Scholar at Levy Economics Institute of Bard College. He obtained an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Sao Paulo in 1975, a Master's in Economics from the University of Campinas in 1978, and a PhD in Economics in 1986 from Rutgers University, supervised by Paul Davidson. Fernando worked as a consultant to both public institutions and financial industry associations, including the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB), the Brazilian National Bank for Economic and Social Development, the Central Statistical Office of Brazil (IBGE), and the National Association of Financial Institutions of Brazil, as well as for non-governmental organization (NGOs) such as IBASE and ActionAid United States of America (USA).
