Women in the criminal justice system and ethnic inequality in mental health are examples of issues the new foundation would address. The United Kingdom has numerous “charities”, which are complemented by and composed of philanthropic institutions. Philanthropy in the European Union is significant as well. Northern and Western Europe are known for policy environments favorable to philanthropy and some degrees of organizational freedom and civic participation. The growth in UK giving represents a renewal of interest in philanthropy, as foundation giving declined in the immediate aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. The idea of an Action Inquiry Organization is fundamental to Lankelly Chase’s strategy. The implementation of their worldview is demonstrated in the foundation’s programming. As noted, the foundation has transitioned away from thematic programs and developed an Action Inquiry Approach guided by nine System Behaviors. While philanthropy has been undergoing growth in the UK, overall, this is a time of uncertainty due to Brexit.
