Philanthropy can be manipulated to enable disproportionate power for wealthy individuals or institutions. Foundations and philanthropists have choices. Their policies and practices reflect these options as well as their priorities and values. The National Committee on Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) has been a true trailblazer on matters of the responsibility of philanthropy to society. NCRP is a member of Change Philanthropy, which is a coalition of ten organizations that champion various aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion in philanthropy. Philanthropy can be better in tune with society when greater lines of communication are established between foundations and the communities they intend to serve, and when foundations are willing to enable the voices of those communities to help shape their priorities. The chapter also presents some closing thoughts of the key concepts discussed in this book.
