“This is not your father’s war”

Using the Afghan war as a case study, this chapter continues the argument of the previous, but now makes clear the new demands that “irregular” or unconventional war will make upon established bureaucracies and institutions, like the United Nations and NATO, as well as allied, rights-respecting governments, for deploying military force.
