ABSTRACT

Human existence takes place against a background of what is familiar, what is thought to be true, what goes without saying and what does not raise any questions. Human beings are talking animals. We are not only our body but also our voice. The fact that we are animals that have language at their disposal has led to these duplications. It is our fate, as human beings, both in a positive and in a negative way. Language does not only make understanding possible, but also makes misunderstanding possible. The challenging and fascinating aspect of our existence can be found in the endless dialectic that our talking existence entails. The claim of dynamic nominalism points towards the fact that in a world in which people are seen as objects that can be studied by behavioural science, a certain kind of person comes into being who behaves like an object studied in behavioural science.
