ABSTRACT

The research that underpins this book was conducted in schools around the country while I was leading the Knowledge Development team at the charity Teach First. My team and I visited teachers in a wide range of year groups, subjects, and types of school, and in very different local contexts. The examples in this book are drawn from distinctively different classrooms but they have two things in common: the teachers all trained to teach through the Teach First programme; and they are all in schools in economically deprived communities.
