ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book develops new approaches to slum tourism research, by using the perspectives of other academic disciplines to perform theoretical, methodological and analytical interventions. It invites further studies of slum tourism as a practice within these neighbouring disciplines. The book provides ethnography of a particular group of people working with slum tourism in Delhi, 2006–17. It also provides an answer, firstly by pointing to a series of similar practices that are generally not deemed exploitative above and beyond what is normally dictated by the global, capitalistic division of labour. The book also constructs a framework where emotions might be registered as producing meaning in a social context. It analysis the personal stories of the CW-guides, where this position is more explicitly articulated.
