Conclusion: Implications for the Development of Sustainable Forest Management Practices

For a decade or more there has been increasing awareness that more effective approaches for managing natural forests in the developing world are required, and recognition that such approaches almost certainly need to involve forest-local communities (Chapter One). There is however less agreement as to what role forest-local communities should play in the management of the forests and particularly those of high biodiversity, such as the Eastern Arc.
