      ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores Turkish Model and presents its birth and development. It introduces economic, political and legal aspects of the model and discusses its achievements. The book focuses on Turkish politics and policy making after the collapse of the Soviet Union. It aims to explore Turkish foreign policy in the early 1990s and the shaping of the Turkish public opinion. The book also explores the attitudes of the West and the Turkic republics towards Turkey. It looks at the state of the Turkish Model at a time when it was proposed to the Turkic states of the former Soviet Union. The book also focuses on Turkey's domestic politics and foreign policy following the break up of the Soviet Union. It highlights the possible reasons which led to the decline of Western support for the Turkish model.
