ABSTRACT

The theological method of the use of scripture, tradition and reason, was concerned to let truth speak on its own terms, and therefore for order to become apparent through this. Truth and order are seen as Christ Himself. The essential of scripture generally is regarded as its witness to the Incarnation –the fact that the Eternal Son or Word of God took to Himself our human flesh and nature and was born a son of man. The Holy Scripture is the fountain and lively spring, containing in all sufficiency and abundance the pure Water of Life, and whatsoever is, necessary to make God's people wise unto salvation. Andrewes exhibits a dread, characteristic of all his own and his contemporaries' works, of reason as an autonomous factor intruding into the mystery of God. Scripture, tradition and reason all are centred on the Incarnational revelation and reconciliation of God, were the conceptual tools with which they viewed all areas of existence.
