ABSTRACT
A Geological Medley that more than anything else determines the scale of the human vista. Limestone formation, especially when it is associated, as it generally is, with mountain-locked valleys and sudden ravines, encourages independent and small communities. The continental empires, on the other hand, radiate athwart the vastness of single rivers, their all-too-powerful fathers.
