ABSTRACT

The partial and discriminatory nature o f em otions seem s to contradict the impartial and egalitarian nature o f morality in general and tolerance in particular. Tolerance im plies our ability to take several general, impartial perspectives, whereas in em otions w e take a very partial perspective. W hile admitting the presence o f such a conflict, I believe that em otions are nevertheless important in moral behaviour in general and in tolerance in particular.
