ABSTRACT

The National Bank of Belgium holds a quarterly survey on the utilisation of production capacities in the manufacturing industry. The latest observations exhibit unprecedentedly high levels for the degree of utilisation of production capacity in the manufacturing industry as a whole. What seems to be a jump in the series could possibly be explained by short-term economic developments, by technical considerations in the way the degree of utilisation is calculated, or by structural changes in the replies given by entrepreneurs participating in the survey.
