ABSTRACT

A precondition for illegal labour migration is that a market exists for illegal labour, requires the qualifications offered by illegal labour immigrants, and employers who are prepared to take the risk of employing foreigners illegally. Many of the companies that employed them have disappeared or have reduced their workforce, so that many immigrants have become unemployed, which is a heavy burden. In Denmark there are practically no illegal immigrants in the labour market. The demand for the type of work that illegal immigrants can supply is limited because they lack the qualifications needed on the informal labour market. The primary focus of research into the phenomenon of illegal labour immigration is therefore to disclose the factors, which cause employers to decide to take on illegal labour immigrants. In addition to the developments in atypical forms of employment, there are also a significant number of illegal immigrants on the German labour market.
