ABSTRACT

In this chapter an economic typology and a typology of ICT usage is made on the basis of which a statistical analysis will be made in order to reveal relevant correlations and then assess their importance. Privatisation is a factor that strongly enhances ICT introduction. However, it is not its formal aspect but its effects in the domain of management that are important here. Therefore, positive effects of privatisation are considerably less visible in Lithuania than in Poland or in Hungary. The most important changes in the domain of corporate governance occur when a firm is taken over by foreign capital. It leads to quick introduction of modern ICT, unless the investment is intended to liquidate competition. Telecommunications tariffs did not rank very high in listed barriers in surveys. However, in Hungary tariffs were highest and in Lithuania lowest. Foregoing analysis is made on the basis of research in industrial sectors in Central and Eastern Europe.
