ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 examines Senate websites using the measures of online accessibility utilized in Chapter 4. While some member- and state-level variables account for some variation in web design choices impacting accessibility to constituents online, senators generally do not use website features to increase online accessibility to constituents. Importantly, senators use some communication features differently than their House colleagues, and these differences mesh with theoretical expectations that senators behave as members of a more insulated, elite, and ambitious representational body.
