ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the reader is introduced to the Minnesota Model of treatment and its current iteration in the majority of treatment programs for substance use disorders. Beginning with an overview of the history of the Minnesota Model, the chapter also reviews the history of programs that arose out of this model, and the current trends in treatment. A brief overview of outcomes for treatment is also explored, including an examination of the difficulty in research and outcomes measurement. The chapter concludes with a review of current research trends.
