ABSTRACT

This chapter 1 analyses interviews that took place in 1994 with 30 managers and care managers involved in the management and practice tasks that are essential to the continuing implementation of community care policy. There is, in what follows, a statement of the aims of the interviews, a description of the participants and the methodology, followed by analysis of the contents of the interview transcripts. Further reflection on these interviews follows from Chapter Five, when a range of theoretical perspectives are used to try and make sense of the methodological, epistemological and practice problems encountered in the analysis of this first piece of fieldwork.
