ABSTRACT

Transportation is crucial. It is the lifeblood of the economy. In the same way that the human circulatory system is essential in delivering the nutrients and oxygen to the human body that make life possible, the transportation systems of a modern nation deliver the goods and services that enable the economy to function. An excellent demonstration of the importance of transportation occurs whenever a part of Canada suffers from a crippling snowstorm. Transportation is also a key when it comes to relationships between Canada and the United States. The "buzzword" of the new millennium is often considered to be globalization. But from the point of view of Canadians, the more crucial buzzword is continentalization. As the economic ties between Canada, Mexico, and the United States strengthen, continental thinking becomes an integral part of the new mindset. Transportation plays an essential role in the continentalization of North America.
