ABSTRACT

The African Diaspora refers to the dispersal of Africans from Africa, and African descended people are located throughout the world. For many, the Diaspora is our link with our homeland, the African continent. The African Diaspora is rooted in our shared experience of trauma: trauma caused by slavery, imperialism, colonialism, racism, neo-colonialism and dehumanizing treatment. It refers to both physical and psychological pain, as well as past, present and future experiences. The African Diaspora represents a link, or connectedness, which is based on our

shared history and experiences, providing a warm sense ofbelonging in what would otherwise be an isolating and marginalizing existence in foreign lands.
