ABSTRACT
Energy is transferred from hotter places to cooler places in three ways:
by conduction – energy is transferred through a substance, usually a solid, but the substance itself does not move;
by convection – energy is transferred when a hot liquid or gas moves;
by radiation – the energy is carried by electromagnetic waves, which do not need any substance to travel through.
