ABSTRACT

Medium term plan takes into account the school philosophy in planning how the aims and content of the National Curriculum will be delivered and assessed, in ways which build on previous knowledge and progress children's skills in historical enquiry. In addition to making connections between study units, to ensure that the big picture is coherent, it is a good idea to plan for an overview of a study unit then for depth studies within it, to enable children to understand both 'the long arc of development and the complexity of specific aspects of the content'. Draft medium-term plan shows planning for key concepts and predicted timings. This plan specifies combinations of teacher-led, whole-class work, a whole-class site visit, collaborative research in small groups, whole-class presentations and discussion of findings and individual writing. The plan also contains planning for time, a site visit, learning objectives, activities, groupings, enquiry skills and assessments.
