ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the numerous influences, ideologies and characters that shaped the revolt that toppled the Shah and saw the establishment of an Islamic Republic. It investigates the variety of personages and opinions that prevailed in pre-revolutionary Iran. Since Ayatollah Khomeini has played such an important role in post-revolutionary. The chapter contains the crude outline of the system of government that would unfold in the aftermath of the revolution; it contained his views of the relationship between man, the state and God and was a culmination of his work as a teacher, philosopher and Islamic scholar. Many of the post revolutionary leaders of Iran can trace their political roots to the Coalition and their role in disseminating Khomeini's word. The Coalition grew and its influence spread to other cities and other bazaars. Islamic mythology mixed with reality created powerful images in the Iranian psyche.
