ABSTRACT

Contrary to the extractivist sentiments of malestream norms, the well-being of all life hinges on an understanding that we are all connected. Throughout this book we have examined four streams of thinking. We have also considered an array of additional influences and attempts to ground masculinities in ecologisation that have come before us. Building on these foundations, we now step towards our conceptualisations and the plurality of practical applications that are associated with ecological masculinities. Broader, deeper and wider care for the glocal is a central fixture of our rendition of masculine ecologisation. Here, we construct a ‘shelter on estuarine shores’, allowing the materials that have gathered before us to help shape ecological masculinities. Our ecological masculinities shelter is a place of contemplation where we can slow down enough to ‘give ADAM-n’ about Earth, others and self – concurrently. It is also a place for wise decisions making and gaining clarity to bring about organised transitional change. In building this shelter, we encourage each individual to encounter: Awareness, Deconstruction, Amendment and Modification in order to bring about a new kind of ‘Adam’ to the dogmatic Judeo-Christian ethos that has sanctified Western male domination for millennia. We encourage pluralised approaches to the embodiment of ecological masculinities, encouraging transitions from hegemonisation to ecologisation by developing awareness of one’s zest, superpower, hurts and wishes for self and Earth. As a pluralised practical pathway, these four fronts of praxis are cultivated through self-reflexive practices from meditative spiritual rituals, dedicated physical activities, outdoor encounters, writing, public engagement, etc.
