ABSTRACT

This chapter attempts to analyse the problems and issues in Russia and relate it to the relations that have evolved with the US and the West, since the collapse of communism. It aims to the relationship in their respective perceptions in the unfolding events of the post-Cold War scenario. Before analyse the problems and issues can be addressed, an internal understanding of Russian domestic affairs is required to establish a picture of the perceptions created. This involves an examination and analysis of the historical background of Russia's political, economic and military situation since the end of the Cold War. The Russian Orthodox Church is believed to be involved in the diversion of gvernment's money. It is often argued that the privatisation of monopolies is a natural way to reduce corruption because it eliminates political corruption. On 25 December 1991, the Soviet Union ceased to exist as a political entity.
