ABSTRACT

In the concluding sections of Demonstration, Irenaeus gathers up, in terms of the Christian life, all that he has demonstrated previously. They encapsulates the tone of this life: it is that Christians now 'live in newness by the Word, through faith in the Son of God and love'. It is the Holy Spirit who brings us to Christ and to incorporation with Him in His Person and His acts, and it is the Son who brings us to the Father. The baptism of our regeneration proceeds through these three points: God the Father bestowing on us regeneration through His Son by the Holy Spirit. For as many as carry the Spirit of God are led to the Word, that is, to the Son: and the Son brings them to the Father: and the Father causes them to inherit incorruption.
