ABSTRACT
The Epilogue reflects on outbreak of war and the subsequent lives and careers of Adams, Sewall, and Leonard, until death-Sewall in 1796, Adams in 1826, and Leonard in 1829. It discusses Adams’s reunions with Sewall and Leonard and considers Adams as a custodian of history, urging posterity to examine friendship’s centrality in the historical process.
