ABSTRACT

As the name suggests, a Steering Group’s main responsibility is to steer a project to a successful outcome. As in a PRINCE® Project Board, there needs to be an ultimate authority and decision-maker, who will normally be in the Chair for any Steering Group meetings and may nominate the members and appoint the Project Manager. In a PRINCE® project, this individual is known as the ‘Executive’. Note that the terms ‘Steering Group’, ‘Steering Committee’ and ‘Project Board’ appear to be used synonymously. It is only in a PRINCE® environment that the name, organization and roles have very specific meanings.
